LaDawn “LBJ” Blackett Jones was born in Houston, Texas. Her family moved to Atlanta when LBJ was five to benefit from the bustling Atlanta economy.
LBJ is a proud graduate of St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Westlake High School. During her time at Westlake, LaDawn was introduced to the idea of “service” while completing a class assignment. Later she helped to create a community service club for Westlake girls which became a blueprint for a future life passion.
LBJ graduated from the beautiful HBCU, Tennessee State University in 2002 with a B.A. in English. While at TSU, LBJ served as a peer counselor, the Junior Class Representative, the Senior Class Representative, Speaker of the House and, a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Nashville. Before graduating from Tulane Law School in 2005, LBJ’s Diversity Month program was nominated for the American Bar Associations Community Service award. The program designed by LBJ was created to encourage discussion among law students and break stereotypes.
LBJ began her legal career in the Fulton County District Attorney’s office. Quickly working her way up to a Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney, LBJ became the first Director of the Community Prosecution unit.
LaDawn married U.S. Army SGT Nathaniel Jones, Jr. in 2006. Together they have two children Lyndon and Brendon.
In 2005, Rep. Jones began her second family the “Women of Westlake.” WOW, a community service organization based on LBJ’s own high school club, taught students the love for community service and life skills. LBJ opened her own law firm in 2010. The LBJ Group, LLC still operates as Atlanta’s only holistic criminal defense law firm. She also successfully ran for State Representative for Georgia House District 62 in the Georgia General Assembly. LBJ proudly serves as representative for the College Park, East Point, Douglas and South Fulton communities.
LBJ has written two books. A fiction novel, “Manipulation” in 2012 and a nonfiction memoire “Cheating But Not Cheated: A Memoire of the Atlanta Public Schools Cheating Scandal.” Through this writing LBJ found her passion and skill for translating real stories to everyday people. Rep. Jones was sought out by the Bernie Sanders 2016 campaign. LBJ was hired as the Georgia State Director and acted as a surrogate for events around the Country.
