Dane Peters

Dane Peters is an incoming Doctoral Student in Teaching Social Studies program at
Columbia University Teacher’s College. He has dedicated himself to the education and the
inspiring of young people through history and civic. As an Adjunct Lecturer at Brooklyn
College and BMCC Professor Peters has taught on a wide range of topics that exploring
Caribbean immigration, political identities of the African Diaspora in the 20th century and
Representation of Black Manhood in the political and public spaces. Professor Peters has
also co-facilitated and lead several study abroad classes to Ghana, West Africa.


While fulfilling his passion for education at the college level Professor Peters have also
spent more than a decade in youth development in the New York City Public schools. He
has taken on roles in After school as well being serving as a community school director. His
work as a committed change agent in public schools have taken him to various
neighborhoods throughout the city, Harlem, Flatbush, Far Rockaway, East New York and
Bedford Stuyvesant. Dane remains committed to the education, and mentorship of students

of color throughout their K-16 experience.
